USL research

Our research responds to urgent global challenges, using diverse methodologies to understand and engage with complex urban processes. We explore a broad range of research themes , including:

  • The intersections of architecture, infrastructure, and everyday social practices.
  • Architecture  and urban transformation under the climate emergency.
  • Human-nature-infrastructure interactions.
  • Digital narratives and visual methods in architectural theory and practice.
  • Inequalities and marginalisation in urban environments, focusing on vulnerable populations such as children and older people.
  • The digitalisation of everyday urban life.
  • Universal  culture and materiality in the context of museums and the ‘other’.

We are committed to decolonial and translocal approaches that help to dismantle entrenched colonial perspectives within urban studies.
